What a fabulous week we have had this week! From going to the Philharmonic to listen to the amazing Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra to drumming with Mrs Edger to having a visit from Steve the 'Greatest Showman' to singing with Mrs Caple to the wonderful saxophone group! We have had a brilliant week! A big 'thank you'! to Mrs Harper for all the hard work organising such an amazing week!

Homework  15.6.18

For homework this week would like the children to continue to learn the 2, 5 and 10 times tables for a sponsored Maths challenge to support the NSPCC. A form was sent home last week; even a small token sponsorship would be gratefully received. We are planning to complete the challenge on Thursday afternoon. Obviously if you are confident that your child knows these times tables and their associated division facts please move onto other tables.

Mrs Groom’s and Mrs Roberts' spelling groups have recently undertaken an assessment of the ‘St. Luke’s Year 2 common exception words’. A copy of your child’s results will be found in their bookbags.

Thank you for your continued support

The Year 2 team

What an egg-cellent week we've had in Year 2! The arrival of our Living Eggs was cause for much egg-citement, with a total of 9 chicks hatching this week. We have all enjoyed a little cuddle with them and have learnt so much. We have also harvested a range of vegetables from our school garden that we planted earlier in the year including, potatoes, garlic, onions and strawberries. We enjoyed homemade potato salad with garlic butter and sauteed onions and it was DELICIOUS!

Homework for the week beginning 11.6.18

We are very ‘eggcited’ as we are eggpecting the living eggs to arrive on Monday! For homework this week we would like the children to research an animal and find out about its life cycle. Children can choose how they would like to record this activity, suggestions are listed below. Please do not stick this week’s homework into the homework book as we would like to display it in class.

  • Leaflet
  • Poster
  • Powerpoint
  • Labelled picture
  • A written report!

The week commencing the 18th June ‘Art’s week’ the children be making a ‘habitat box’ for an animal of their choice. For this they will need a shoe box so please keep this in mind (we don’t need them this week!). If you have any spare ones please send them in when needed!

In preparation for Year 3 and Juniors, from next week until the end of term, we will be asking the children to check the contents of their own bookbag and hand any letters, forms etc to an adult in class. Please remind the children to do this each morning.

Many thanks

The Year 2 Team.

We have had a busy week starting our new topic 'Walk on the Wild Side'.

We were pleasantly surprised to see how much the garden had grown over the break. The strawberries in particular are looking fantastic and are tasting delicious!

25. 5. 18

This half term we have worked so hard in Year 2 and this week enjoyed a celebration on the school field. We had lots of fun taking part in a range of sporting activities and eating lolly ices! Have a wonderful half term and we will see you on Tuesday 5th June.

18. 5. 18

What a truly wonderful week we've had. The sun has shone and we have embraced the arrival of Summer. Year 2 have spent time in our school garden, planting out the rest of the beans, lettuce and peas and we are so looking forward to harvesting (and eating them) later in the Summer. We also enjoyed a picnic lunch to celebrate the Royal Wedding and the children looked fantastic wearing red, white and blue.

We are coming to the end of our Great Fire topic but this week enjoyed writing using a quill and ink and writing messages using Samuel Pepys secret code. We have also made a super start on our winding houses for DT. We will post our finished masterpieces next week.

11. 5. 18

The children have worked extremely hard this week on our 'special quizzes'! We were very proud of them all!

We have also been busy this week planting some more seeds and looking after the school garden. This week we have planted sweetcorn, carrots, pumpkins, courgettes, celery and even more strawberries. The garden looks fabulous, please take a look at some of the photographs below.

4. 5. 18

Mrs Callow would like to say a big 'thank-you' for the kind words and lovely presents. We are sad to see her leave St. Luke's but wish her well in her new job!

The children also made a fantastic booklet with special messages from each child (with Mrs Burdell's  assistance). Mrs Callow was genuinely touched by the individual thoughts and messages. We will hopefully see Mrs Callow in the near future,  work schedule permitting, as she has offered to help on next half term's trips.

We look forward to having the lovely Miss Woodland rejoin the Year 2 team.

22. 4. 18

We have had a spectacular time this week studying all things Science!

We all thoroughly enjoyed Adrian and his amazing science show, teaching us about the properties of a a range of materials. We were captivated throughout the show - especially when he blew the lid off a cannister using 'Fizzy Bubbles!' Ask your child all about it!

The school garden is also looking fantastic and the children have worked so hard. We had a wonderful time sowing the first of our seeds for the Summer and are looking forward to tasting the baby spinach and peas quite soon.

13. 4. 18

What a busy start to the term! The children have enjoyed the beginning of of our topic 'Fire! Fire!'! We have been amazed how much they know already.

16. 3. 18

This week has been 'Super' in every sense of the word! We have thoroughly enjoyed designing, making and evaluating our Superhero vehicles as part of our DT this week and we all LOVED coming to school dressed as our favourite Superhero. Some of us came to school dressed as our own Superhero and these costumes were a delight to see.

Take a look at our photos and see if you agree!

8. 3. 18

As you are aware our trip to the synagogue was cancelled due to the unexpected arrival of the snow! We will be rearranging the trip and will let you know when we have the new date.

We had a great time on Thursday morning, instead of visiting the synagogue we had a fantastic Science lesson discussing, sorting and classifying different materials. Please look at some of the photographs.

2. 3. 18

What an exciting week we've had! As if the snow wasn't enough we also had a FANTASTIC time dressing up for World Book Day! We thought we looked amazing, what do you think? Also, try and spot the 5 'Where's Wally' characters on one of our photographs.

We had a fantastic day today, sharing books and listening to stories!  We had a visit from 'Dragonlady' aka Mrs Edwards, who told us one of Dragonlady's encounters with Mr Muncher the daffodil eating baddie!

23. 2. 18

We had a fantastic hockey lesson this week with coaches from Formby Hockey Club. Please take a look at the photographs!

For 2IR we had the perfect end to the half term with our Golden Ticket Reward on Friday. We snuggled down and got cosy at our pyjama party, watching a film and eating sweets and popcorn!  What more could we ask for?

Finally, just to inform you, our Outdoor Games day will be changing once again after the half term to a Tuesday afternoon. We our lucky enough to have a professional Hockey Coach coming in to teach the children which should be really great.

We hope you all have a super half term and we'll see you on Monday 19th February.

The children are working really hard in class. In Maths we have been learning about fractions and are showing a good understanding. They have also written some super Fairy Stories in the style of Little Red Riding Hood.

The week commencing the 5th February is our DT week. We are very much looking forward to tasting, evaluating, designing and then making our own Gingerbread Men!  Busy times ahead in Year 2!

19. 1. 18

Year 2 enjoyed a super trip to the Metropolitan Cathedral to take part in the Epiphany service. We thoroughly enjoyed looking at the beautiful stained glass windows and listening to the story of the Wise Kings.

All week we have been fundraising for Children in Need - playing games, eating toast, colouring in Pudsey bear and painting faces! WOW!

10. 11. 17

Another great week in Year 2!  The children have enjoyed writing instructions on how to make a sparkly biscuit.  We were very impressed with their instructions, some of the best writing so far this year... nothing to do with the fact that they needed clear instructions to follow in order to make their own biscuit to enjoy!

Click here to take a look at some of their fabulous creations!

3. 11. 17

This week we have thoroughly enjoyed learning about Diwali as part of our new topic 'Celebrations around the World'.
