Roots and Shoots Parent and Toddler Group

Dear mums, dads, grandparents and carers. As the new term approaches we have had several enquiries about Roots and Shoots and whether we can resume our sessions. I'm sure you will appreciate that, as a primary school, our priority must be getting our children back to school safely.  We have decided that, to ensure the safety of all - pupils, staff and our Roots and Shoots families - we will not reopen in September, but review the situation at October half term.  We have really missed you and your children and hope you all remain safe and well.  If your child is moving on to one of our Reception classes we will look forward to seeing them again very soon.  Best wishes from Ali, Jackie, Vikki, Kathy and all at St Luke's.

STOP PRESS - We have added another session - every Friday morning, 9.15am until 10.30am with Jan and Jackie.

Our Parent and Toddler group meet every Tuesday afternoon in the school hall.  The group is led by  Ali, Jackie and Vikki who warmly welcome mums, dads, grandparents and even great grandparents! And of course - mostly importantly - the children. We have babies, toddlers and some children almost ready to join us in 'big school' in September.

There are a wide range of toys available, plenty of 'safe space' for the babies and a craft area supervised by one of the adults. At the end of the session we have singing time.

Whether you're already part of the St Luke's family or you're new to Formby, on maternity leave or just needing a break and a friendly face - please come and join us.

Fun in the Sun

It was a really hot day - so a bit of water art ...

...followed by an ice lolly was just what we needed.

Making Caterpillars

Making our toddlers 'SMILE'

Our Year 6 children joined us to read with the toddlers for their SMILE Challenge. There was a special request from parents for the pupils to visit again next week.

Meeting our new chicks

Our toddlers were mesmerised by the baby chicks and loved how fluffy and ticklish they were. Lots of giggles!

Watery Wonderland

Lots of fun at our last ‘Stay and Play’ for this year.

A surprise visitor

Marley the donkey made a surprise visit to school during the last week of the spring term.  He was helping the Reception children with their Palm Sunday celebrations.  Later, everyone from Roots and Shoots came to see him - with lots of hugs and carrots.  One mum remarked, 'We always get a warm welcome when we come to Roots and Shoots but we've never had one from a donkey!'

'Sensational Senses' Success

Our first ‘stay and play’ of the year was lots of fun for those braved the snowy conditions.  There was fruit salad to make and taste, touchy/feely trays full of jelly and pasta, shakers to make and play at the music workshop and some very smelly bottles!  Our next event, 'A Big Bear Adventure', takes place on Wednesday, 9th May in the afternoon.

Teddy Bear's Picnic

Our last toddler group of the year was on a beautiful sunny afternoon.which we spent in the Reception playground.  There were cakes and ice lollies to share with the teddies and all our new friends who have joined us throughout the year.  Happy holidays everyone - see you in September!

The weather was perfect for our watery challenges during STEM week.  The toddlers had a great time splashing about in their wellies, washing cars, bathing baby dolls, watering plants and making a swamp for the dinosaurs.  We think parents appreciated the afternoon too - as one parent said, 'I'd never do this at home!'

Children in Need

Babies, toddlers, mums and grandmas join in the celebrations in true Pudsey style.
