Sports Relief Football Matches
To celebrate Sports Relief, the teachers took on the Year 6 boys' and girls' football teams in two very special lunchtime exhibition fixtures. Mrs Cowey took charge of proceedings and ensured fairplay all round. Despite the early kick-off, a capacity crowd was in attendance.
Both games were high-quality, enteraining, tightly contested affairs. The boys battled hard, John in particular keeping a frustrated Mr Hardman on a tight leash throughout the encounter, but eventually lost their match 3-0. A stunning strike from Mr Rigby eventually settling the game for the teachers.
The girls took advantage of the tiring teachers in the second match of the afternoon, winning 2-1. Mr Hardman's cool finish gave the teachers a well-deserved early lead - sending the crowd into rapturous applause. But Gilham's girls gathered momentum to fight back and eventually win the game. They drew level with a great team goal which was finished off by Issy's low shot to the keeper's right. The girls then went on to press home their advantage, forcing a defensive mixup which led to a blunder from hero of the first game - Mr Rigby - who netted at the wrong end to seal a fine victory for the girls.
