Church Service for International Women's Day

Church Service for International Women's Day

This afternoon girls from St Luke's took part in a special service at St Luke's Church to mark International Women's Day. It was a joint celebration with Churches Together in Formby, Hightown and Altcar.  The service had been written by women in Zimbabwe, where freedom of speech and women's rights cannot yet be taken for granted.  We were greeted on entry to church with a glass of water, a Zimbabwean tradition. The theme of the service was "Take up your mat and walk," in reference to Jesus healing the lame man, recorded in  John 5:8, but also in the other three gospels. We were encouraged to think about taking action to stand up to injustice and bring about positive change.

The girls dressed in red, white and yellow representing Love, Peace and Reconciliation.

School was presented with a framed painting of the national flower of Zimbabwe (a flame lily) which we will be proud to display.  Well done to Sophia, Maisie, Freya and Ruby for representing school with reverence and grace.
