Year 6 2017 - 2018

Mr Ayre

Mrs Wilson

Mrs Govan

Welcome to Year 6

In Year 6, our teachers are Mrs. Wilson, Mr. Ayre and Mrs. Govan  and they are supported by Mr. Edger and Miss Woodland.  Ms O'Brien is our lunchtime assistant.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 pupils; as they move through this challenging year and prepare for the transition to secondary school, we have been extremly impressed by their positive learning attitudes and behaviours.  We believe it is important that pupils develop as well-rounded individuals, achieving their academic, sporting and social goals, so we enjoy a varied, topic based curriculum.

Another lovely week with the fabulous children of Y6 has passed and we're glad to say...we've approached a bank-holiday weekend! Enjoy the Sun!

We all love this pic, so we thought that we'd share it with you.

SATs prep is going very well: all of the children are trying their very best. Most importantly though, we're all still remembering to have lots of fun!

If you need anything at all, please just ask.

13. 4. 18

After a well earned East break, Y6 hit the ground running this week with a set of amazing drama performances of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. We've taken lots of pictures and we'll upload these to the website for Tuesday of next week, so please check back to see them.

We've also begun our new Science unit of Light and Shadow and the children have begun to investigate this in many ways. We'll be adding pictures of them hard at work in this area throughout this half-term.

Enjoy your weekend and thank you all for being amazing!

23. 3. 18

What a term it's been here in Y6! All of the children are absolutely incredible and it really is a true privilege to teach them.

Here are some pictures of our most recent trip to Mission Impossible and some displays of the children's wonderful work for our NYC topic.

Enjoy your break!

6. 3. 18

Over the last two weeks, Y6 have been working very hard within their NYC topic to learn about graffiti before debating its presence on the streets of one of America's greatest cities.

They also had a wonderful time exploring the Big Red Bus where they were able to buy a variety of literature.

23. 2. 18

It's been another lovely week here in Y6! The children have been working ever so hard as ever and have continued to surpass our expectations as we have begun our New York City topic.

Our Y6 children who attended last half-term's 'Excellence in English: writing' club with Mr Ayre also visited Apple, Liverpool as a reward for their hard work.

Please take a moment to look through our photos - find a link in the report below!

Y6 - have an awesome weekend!

Excellence in English

Last half-term, a group of talented writers from across Year 6, who applied to attend Excellence in English: writing, were working extremely hard after school each Thursday to produce pieces of writing that discussed the role of ICT within modern education.

As a reward, the group visited Apple, Liverpool on Monday to learn more about this topic and participate in a movie making workshop led by Apple's very own in-house specialists.  Click here to view some of the pictures from the trip.

30. 1. 18

All of Year 6 welcomed Reverend Nicol to the classroom today to further develop their understanding of the creation story, and also to hear his thoughts regarding their recent work in science about Charles Darwin and the theory of evolution.

Thanks for coming, Reverend Nicol!

5. 1. 18

Welcome back Y6 and we hope that you've had a fantastic break after all of your hard work during Autumn term.

You've made a fantastic start this week and we can't wait to greet you on Monday to continue with our new topic: Evolution Revolution.

We've had some small changes to our timetable, so Games will now be taught on a Wednesday (outdoor kit) and P.E. will be on a Thursday (indoor kit).

17. 12. 17

Y5 and 6 got together this afternoon for their annual Christmas party and we all had a blast!

Special Report!

Last night, the Sefton Girls Primary U11 squad took part in the Merseyside County Primary Schools Inter Borough League 2017 / 2018 (Match Day 2) against other districts such as Knowsley, Liverpool, Wirral and West Lancashire.

Issy from St Luke's was selected to take part in the tournament and was a credit to the school: performing really well, helping the team to only concede one goal all night. Sefton went on to win the tournament for the first time this season.

30. 11. 17

Year 6 started their brand new topic of A Child's War this week and they've taken to it extremely well - demonstrating their ever growing levels of maturity when delving into texts that cover difficult subjects such as Goodnight Mr Tom.

Well done Y6! You're doing us proud!

Check back later this week for more updates...

21. 10. 17

Imran Kotwal visited our school today to teach the Year 5 and Year 6 pupils about Islam.

This morning In Year 6, Imran taught the pupils about Zakat, the Islamic pillar of Charity.  Imran explained the importance of Zakat for Muslims as a way of helping those in need and bringing happiness by sharing your personal wealth or even by simply sharing your smile!

Everyone in Year 6 has learnt so much about Islam and in particular Zakat; Imran's explanation of how Zakat is calculated (a minimum of 2.5% of your savings), whilst also taking into account different circumstances for people in different financial situations, was incredibly thought provoking and extremely interesting.

Thank you Imran, from all of Year 6!

10. 11. 17

Congratulations Year 6!  Your Remembrance Service was absolutely wonderful! We're all very proud of you!

Have a look at some pictures from the service here.

Den building extravaganza!

Year 6 had their golden ticket reward on Friday afternoon (after just five weeks of the new term!).  The children had a great time building dens in the classroom.

Well done everyone!

11. 10. 17
Y6 visited Preston Guild Hall and Charter Theatre last week to celebrate the performance of our very own Molly Large who was starring as Jane Eyre.

Molly’s performance was truly incredible and she wowed us all with her poise, confidence and maturity.

In such a demanding role, she performed with such grace.

Well done Molly and we look forward to seeing future performances!

21. 9. 17

Year 6 all had great fun during their trip to CLAC on Wednesday.  The children had the opportunity to try out a variety of different activities on the water and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  Thanks to the team of instructors at CLAC who supported the children.

Homework (4. 5. 18)

Dear Y6, Parents and Carers,

This is our last week of homework before our assessment week begins on Monday 14th May.

We've attached an arithmetic paper and the Y5/6 word list for your child to complete and practise.

Attached to the arithmetic paper is a mark scheme, so your child can have instant feedback.

The children have been learning the attached words throughout Y5 and Y6, so they should be very familiar with them as they could be asked to spell them as part of their spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPAG) assessment.

We'll be reviewing them with the children next week, so practise over the bank-holiday weekend will be necessary.

Thank you for your continued support and if you require anything at all, please just let us know.

The Y6 Team

P.S. Your children are a credit to you all! A truly wonderful year group.
