Y6 Weekly Blog (2. 11. 18)

Date: 2nd Nov 2018 @ 12:52pm

This week, the children have been fantastic and embraced school again after their half-term break. The children are all showing a growing maturity, in meeting the raised expectations and standards of Year 6; the staff are proud to see this development from them.

Our topic A Child’s War is well underway and the children have finalised their wonderful poppies this week for an installation in the local Methodist church. Well done to all of them for doing such a fantastic job. These marvellous creations will be up on display soon for your enjoyment, if you would like to do and see them. The children have also displayed a very grown-up level of empathy, by writing some excellent letters, from the perspective of a World War 1 soldier in the trenches. The writing features and emotive detail within these has been outstanding.

Fractions have been the order of the day in Maths lessons. The children obviously got a good handle on these in Year 5, as they’re doing very well when simplifying and finding equivalent fractions. Well done again children.

Our Superstars this week are Callum (6G) and Adam (6WD). Keep up the amazing standards you two.

Our new homework grid has been given out this weekend, along with some amendments actioned by the feedback of our homework survey. Thanks to all who responded and contributed, and we hope that the changes made will better suit your needs and those of the children.

Hi can you please clarify exactly what the children are expected to do, i.e. each week are they supposed to complete an activity off the grid, complete the maths skill sheet, complete the reading booklet, learn spellings form the statutory list, the weekly spellings and go over the spelling lists for years 3 & 4 and 5 & 6 - oh and learn times tables and read for 15 minutes a day as well ???
