Year 6 Weekly Blog 19.1.24

Date: 12th Jan 2024 @ 3:11pm

This has been another busy week in both 6G and 6H. The children have produced some wonderful work and have shared their ideas well.

In English, the children have started to compose their own retelling of the novel, 'Tyger' by SF. Said. So far, the children have been really engaged with this alternative, dystopian view of British society. It is going to be a pleasure to see how they alter these concepts when finally producing their own composition of a dystopian story-opening. In maths, we have been working through problems involving percentages. Year 6 have developed their understanding of changes in quantity, and how different percentages can relate to an original 100% that has been altered.

We have continued learning about Judaism in R.E and it is setting up a good foundational understanding for our visit to the Plaza Cinema in Crosby next week, where we will be watching a film related to Holocaust Memorial Day. The children have looked more closely at adjectives in Latin, and this is all after starting an action-packed week with dodgeball on Monday morning.

We hope that you and your children hav a restful weekend and that they return on Monday, energised and ready to push on even more.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
