Year 6 Blog 8.9.23

Date: 8th Sep 2023 @ 9:15am

What a great first week back we have had in Year 6. The children have come back from their time off with a great attitude to learning and have stuck themselves in at the deep end excellently. We have started to look at our topic of Healthy Humans by doing an experiment on our heart rate, where the children measured their heart rates at different points after exercise. They worked well as a team to help each other in this. We have also started to go through place value in maths, comparing and ordering numbers and rounding them to the nearest million, hundred-thousand etc.

We have introduced tall desks to our Key Stage 2 classrooms so the children can choose to sit or stand as they work.  Research indicates there are multiple benefits to standing to work, including:
improved focus and concentration due to micro-movements allowing energies to be directed into learning rather than than seeking broader movement;
increased levels of alert, both during and after standing to work;
reduced risk of obesity;
improved mental health linked to positive endorphins being stimulated by exercise;
better posture and spine/shoulder alignment.
The children will all have opportunities to explore how they work best given the benefits are universal; ample space for seated work will continue to be available.

A quick reminder that homework can be found on the Home Learning Button on top of the Year 6 page. Home Learning is a maths activity, Grid activity and practising spellings every week.
Welook forward to the rest of the school year; You should be really proud on how your children have started life in Year 6.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
