Year 5 Weekly Blog (6. 11. 20)

Date: 4th Nov 2020 @ 1:05pm

We hope you all had a lovely half term and had a chance to have some days outside in the fresh air.

This half term our topic is based upon the Victorians and we will be learning all about life during the reign of Queen Victoria through the eyes of a child, "Jim Jarvis." He is the main character in our class novel "Street child" and as his story unfolds, we will be learning about the real history that matches the life Jim is leading. This week we learnt about the life of Queen Victoria and how the lives of the rich and poor differed greatly 150 years ago.We also read, looked at and described a typical Victorian street scene, with horses, carriages and cobblestone roads.

5L have also had an excellent week learning to cycle safely on the roads and passing their Bikeability training. 5J are all excited for their turn next week.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
