Year 5 Weekly Blog (4. 12. 20)

Date: 3rd Dec 2020 @ 11:08am

Our class novel reached a really exciting point this week, where Jim the main character, managed to escape from his abusive master Grimy Nick, by locking him in the hold of the boat they were working on. The children were really inspired by their predictions of what may happen now to Jim and whether Nick and his dog would find him, or whether they would remain trapped or even worse, not survive. As such, the children decided to write newspaper reports about their predictions. The reports were so factual that they could be mistaken for real Victorian news reports.

In maths we have been looking at fractions: changing between mixed and improper fractions and comparing and ordering equivalent fractions.

Your child should have come home with a letter all about our DT project on moving Victorian toys and what they need to bring in, as we will be starting to measure, saw, create mechanisms and create next week. Also next week, don't forget our Victorian day on Wednesday.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
