Year 5 weekly blog 22.9.23

Date: 22nd Sep 2023 @ 5:45pm

This week we had the pleasure of welcoming 'Big Nose' to school as part of our Maya Day. Dressed in Maya warrior clothing and with his painted face, Big Nose entertained the children throughout the day. They learnt all about the number system and the sacrificial rituals, and handled a range of fascinating Maya artefacts. They also took part in a drama workshop, which showcased their fabulous acting skills!

5H managed to escape the rain to play the Maya ball game of Pok-A-Tok. 5W will have their oppprtunity next week. The children experienced just how dificult a game it was to play.

We were also lucky to have an author visit us today (Friday). Josh Lacey came to school to share his latest book  "Viking Attack"  and answered lots of great questions from the children.

We have also begun our art topic on typography and have been experimenting with letter designs to really capture the imagination.

Next week, we are being visited by a horse. This experience forms part of our writing topic on "The Highwayman" and we are all very excited!

Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

The Year 5 Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
