Year 5 Weekly Blog 17.3.23

Date: 17th Mar 2023 @ 2:31pm

It's been a short 3 day week in Year 5 but we've still been busy!

Twenty Seven children have so far completed their 'Bikeability' sessions with some luckier with the weather than others! Well done to those who have taken part and we hope you continue your cycling outside of school. We have 18 more taking part next week so fingers crossed for the weather to be kind to us.

All props are now completed for the 'Big Performance' in a couple of weeks. The stage ids up too and we can't wait to run through the show in full costumes.

Today is Red Nose Day and the children have helped raise much needed funds for such a worthwhile charity. There should be a whole school photo posted on Twitter which was taken during our Celebration Assembly.

In Maths, the children have been practising using protractors, both virtual and real. It was great seeing those who quickly got the hang of using them sharing their skills with others. If you've got one lying around the house, why not ask your child to draw some angles of differing sizes.

In Science we continued our 'Materials' topic and this time investigated 'saturation'. The children were set a task to see which of salt or sugar dissolved the most in water. We found out that salt doesn't dissolve as much as sugar, so is the least soluble of the two solids. It reaches saturation point first.

Whatever you're doing over the weekend, enjoy it and stay safe.

Many thanks,

The Year 5 Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
