Year 5 Blog - 9th December 2022

Date: 9th Dec 2022 @ 3:27pm

This week, we had the opportunity to escape school for an afternoon of musical enjoyment. Over 2 days, over 1000 children had the opportunity to listen to and appreciate the live music from the Louis Dowdeswell big band. This was part of the “Discover Music Event” and the children certainly got into the rythmn of the music, especially when the band played the theme from Star Wars!

In Maths, we completed our lessons on continous line graphs, where the children used their interpretation skills to answer questions related to the data. Homelearning this week will be another Christmas themed line graph but this time there will be two separate lines of data to compare! We also began our fractions topic and the children remembered lots of their work on fractions from Yr4 which was great to see.

In English, we watched a trailor for the animated film, Planet 51. The children had the opportunity to discuss the relationship between the “alien” astronaut and the natives on the planet he had landed on. They then created a super 6 box story board and included an element of our grammar work into each box.

On Tuesday, we were entertained by our fabulous Year 2 children with their Nativity show. The acting, dancing and singing was a joy to behold and it certainly began to feel a lot like Christmas!

Well, tomorrow night is when England have the chance to match their best finish in a World Cup since 1966. Let’s hope they can bring it home!

Whatever you have planned this weekend, enjoy and be safe.

The Year 5 team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
