Year 5 Blog - 9/2/24

Date: 9th Feb 2024 @ 1:56pm

Wow! we are now 4/6 of our way through Year 5. If we simplify this fraction (as we have been doing in class!) we are 2/3 of the way through the year!

The children have worked brilliantly and we are extremely proud of their successes. They now deserve a restful break.

This week, we celebrated Safer Internet Day. We watched a live video from the BBC, across with other schools in the UK. We discussed the importance of staying safe online and looked at a number of scenarios to decide if they had a postive or negative influence. We also learnt about AI (artificial intelligence) and how useful it can be, but also how careful we need to be with it.

Also on Tuesday morning, we all enjoyed Rock Kidz, with some groovy songs and fantastic dancing! This was part of a well-being push in school. The Rock Kidz team really did go down a storm.

In English, the children used everything they've learnt during our build up sessions to write their own version of the Nowhere Emporium; we were blown away by the quality of work that was produced.

There is no set homework over half-term;  however, a little go on Doodle Maths, English, Spelling or Times tables would keep things ticking along nicely! Additionally, have a read of a good book. Read to somebody at home and enjoy!

Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable half-term break! See you on Monday 19th February for our Spring 2 term.

The Year Five Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
