Year 5 blog 8/12/23

Date: 8th Dec 2023 @ 3:59pm

We have had a very busy but filled couple of weeks. In English, we have been looking at "The Snowman," by Raymond Briggs, writing a description in our build up to writing of the story. We kickstarted the unit with an experience day - experiencing the cold and had lots of fun doing so. (see photographs)

In Science, we have been investigating water resistance - 5H were so lucky as they were able to do their investigations at Formby Pool, getting in the water 10 minutes before their lesson to see which shapes helped them float better and which jumps heled them stay afloat and which made them sink and why. We have also completed an experimenton air resistance in class, thinking about fair testing and predicting the outcome then using scientific thought inour conclusion to explain the results we discovered. 5W will be investigating water resistance next week.

DT has been such good fun this week. All our practising has paid off and we have created the most amazing stuffed toys: sewing on buttons, appliqueing parts, adding detail with running and cross stitch and joining the fabric with blanket stitch. You will love the finished result.

In maths we finished our unit on graphs - reading timetables and line graphs.

In music we have been rehearsing some of our more Christmassy pieces on our brass instruments ready to perform to our buddies next week. We will record the performance for the blog next week.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
