Year 5 blog 21/4/23

Date: 21st Apr 2023 @ 1:46pm

We have had a fabulous first week back and are so excited for the half term ahead, especially our residential to York, which we started discussing this week.

In Maths we have continued our Geometry unit, learning to draw angles accurately, including the lengths of each side. In English we have been looking at formal letters of persuasion and in Science we have looked at how to separate lots of different materials. We have also had our Golden ticket rewards which were great fun.

Our favourite part of the week though was our visit to the cookery classroom at Range High to complete our DT unit. Having tasted and researched various bolognese sauces, in groups we adapted a basic bolognese recipe to make it healthier and then made it at Range. Some additions included the following:

  • Celery
  • Carrots
  • Mushrooms
  • Red Pepper
  • Cucumber
  • Basil
  • Thyme
  • Mixed Herbs

One group even chose to add a banana and it was surprisingly delicious. We hope you enjoyed eating the sauce with your tea as much as we enjoyed chopping, frying, cooking and reducing it. Please look at all the photographs.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
