Year 5 blog 17.11.23

Date: 17th Nov 2023 @ 1:51pm

We have had a very exciting week this week. On Monday we had a visit from Mr Marshall, who is a cluster manager for many TSB banks in the North West. He talked about money management, how to save and spend wisely – covering everything on our PSHE money management scheme. We listened beautifully and learnt so much that will help us now and in the future. (See photographs.)

In maths we investigated different ways of solving problems that involved calculations such as 674 x 36, learning new methods and comparing them to methods we already know.

In RE we learnt all about Mother Theresa, her work and her teaching. We explored her philosophies and her Christian values, discussing in groups what each one meant to us. (See below.)

In Science, we have investigated how day and night works using a torch to represent the sun and a ball to represent Earth. We then wrote clear, concise explanations to show what we had discovered. We then added a second ball and investigated how the moon moves in relation to the sun and that the moon is always a sphere, no matter the shape we see in the sky. We investigated how and why it appears to look like a crescent, then a quarter moon etc. The photographs below show what fun we had.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
