Year 5 Blog 12/1/24

Date: 12th Jan 2024 @ 3:07pm

It's the 12th already!

We have now concluded our first full week back and have have been working mighty hard in all of our studies.

As writers, we have begun our new adventure - The Nowhere Emporium , and are having lots of fun creating rich and engaging sentences during the sentence stacking sessions.

Here is a great example of our work -

In the town, rumours raced, chatting charged and speculation spread.

As the Sun dipped towards the horizon, a daunting crowd began to merge around the mysterious building.

The air was suddenly alive with a hundred scents. The repulsive whiff of rotten cabbages strewn across the cobbled streets; the sweet aroma of freshly picked flowers being sold by market traders; the heavenly aroma of roasted potatoes and popping corn floating through the alleyways.

In maths, we have begun our fractions topic and have been learning: how to divide to make fractions, finding equivalent fractions, writing improper fractions and mixed numbers, and comparing and ordering fractions.

We also began our new topic this week - The Victorious Vikings, and are excited to learn lots about this period in history, including if the Viikings were in fact victorious or vicious?

In PE we bagan our new units - hockey and dodgeball and are looking forwards to improving the skills we have learnt in previous years and learning new ones.

In brass lessons, we continuie to practise the pieces that we will be performing at the end of this half term. We all need to be working hard on this to make it the best concert ever! The music will be added to the website in the coming days.

Enjoy the weekend break and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
