Year 5 Blog 10.11.23

Date: 9th Nov 2023 @ 5:35pm

Welcome to the week 2 blog. In maths, we have been multiplying 4 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers and the home-learning this week focuses on this.

We have been looking at climate change during our guided reading sessions and this ties in nicely with COP28 which begins later in the month.

Between the rain showers, we managed to get outside for our second tag rugby session focussing on passing the ball whilst on the move.

Our transmission from Mars English topic continued with more experience sessions to give us as real an insight to how life would be as an astronaut alone on the red planet. We then began our “sentence stacking” sessions and showcased our powerful and adventurous language as we began to build up our own transmission messages.

In RE, we focussed on the importance of Mother Teresa in delivering God’s message to others. In groups, we looked at some of her quotes and discussed what they meant to us before presenting our work in the class RE floorbook.

In Brass we had a breakthrough moment and are now much more confident with playing jingle bells. We are looking forward to playing to our buddies at the end of term.

In geography, we were introduced to the important latitudinal lines around the globe and identified countries that lay on each of these lines.

In art, we used a variety of medium to explore and present the planets in our own way.

In computing we began our new topic focussing on video production and were able to explain what makes a video effective.

Enjoy your weekend and stay safe.

All of us in Year 5.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
