Year 4 Blog - 24/9/21

Date: 24th Sep 2021 @ 5:25pm

Another week has flown by and we have had another super week of learning.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the 'Bucket Challenge' funraiser and congratulations to RH (our buddies) who had the heaviest bucket.

Our SUPERSTARS this week were:  4W: Ethan Q      4C:  Jacob W    Congratulations to the two of you.

4W had a fabulous swimming session this week. The children have been working hard with their swim stokes as well as their water confidence and Kate our swimming teacher was extremely proud of their hard work and behaviour.

Meanwhile, 4C have been refining their balancing and rolling techniques in gymnastics and are now creating some thoughtful routines to practise on and present to their peers.

This week, we finished our English themed book 'Fox' which left lots of the children slightly disappointed that it ended on a cliff hanger! Would Magpie survive in the hot, red, dusty desert??? We have had 3 weeks of enjoying the text and discussing it in great detail, using our inference skills throughout the story to help us to describe each of the character's personalities. The good news is that their is a Fox 2 - the sequel! Well there will be 52 versions of Fox 2 by a week in Friday as that is what we will be focussing on in next week's lessons.

We are currently looking at our spelling provision in the juniors, and once a decision has been made, we will communicate this with you. At the moment,  the children are focussing on the Yr3 orange words from the national curriculum and these are posted on to the home learning page on the Friday. We will then focus on each of the words during the following week. The Year 3 & 4 orange words are available in the home learning section and the children are welcome to learn words that we haven't yet visited if they are confident with the ones we have already covered.

Please encourage your children to practise their times tables and to use TT Rockstars throughout  the week. The Maths home learning for this week is all about place value and adding 100's,10's 1's. We have also been comparing and ordering numbers, using the terms: ascending, descending, greater than, less than.

We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible next Monday at 6:45 p.m. for the meet the staff information evening. A link will be sent to either invite you to a Zoom meeting or a Google Classroom meeting (Google Classroom is playing up and if we can't fix it by Monday, then we will need to use Zoom to host the meeting). The Year 4 information leaflet has been added to the web site and will also be added to Google Classrooms.

Enjoy a safe and relaxing weekend everyone.

Many thanks,

The Year 4 Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
