Year 3 Weekly Blog (20. 11. 20)

Date: 20th Nov 2020 @ 1:21pm

20.11.20

This week we have celebrated all things different during our anti-bullying week. We have looked at how our differences make us special and that we should be proud of who we are. The children also enjoyed wearing their odd socks to school on Monday. On Wednesday we completed our work on Friendship Terrace during PHSE and finished with a beautiful performance of the song ‘You’ve got a friend in me’ in full Makaton sign language, a fitting end to our topic during anti bullying week.

Within Science and English we have continued to look at the different layers of the Earth and even used various chocolate bars to distinguish between the different types of rock. An Aero bar is the perfect example of igneous rock (and yummy too!)

During Forest School we tasked the children with making a kite or an aeroplane. They worked so well discussing various ways to make their invention, foraging for leaves and sticks to enhance their designs and had great fun trying to get them to fly. Problem solving at its best!

Today we had a Zoom visit from author Susan Brownrigg. She told us all about the inspiration for her new book and shared top tips on becoming an author. The children really enjoyed the session. Her new book is available to purchase for £5 via the school office.

Next Thursday we will be learning all about Advent through our Advent Day. Over the course of the day the children will take part in a range of exciting activities which will all enhance their understanding of Advent. It is a really lovely day and we look forward to sharing some of the photographs next week.

It has been so nice to connect with you all via Zoom over the last couple of weeks to discuss your childs progress since joining year 3. You will have all received a spelling sheet this week containing the Year 1 and 2 common exception words. These sheets were highlighted to show the words your child is currently finding a challenge. For those parents who feel their child is ready for a new set of words we have placed the first ten orange words for Year 3 on our home learning page this week.

Finally, you are all in for a treat. Our long awaited Thankfulness service is ready for its premier and will be winging its way to you tonight via school spider. We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we loved creating it!

Happy Weekend everybody,

The Year 3 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
