Year 3 Weekly Blog (18. 9. 20)

Date: 17th Sep 2020 @ 8:36pm

18.9.20

We hope you have all recieved your 'Welcome to Year 3' information booklet. If you did not recieve the email can you please let us know.

This week the children have so enjoyed getting their teeth into our new topic 'Lights, Camera, Action'. They have been learning all about the features of a playscript and how a set in the theatre works. We have enjoyed reading various plays and even watched part of a panto, identifiying characters and scene changes.

Within Maths we have begun simple addition and subtraction. However, we have noticed that so many of the children are struggling counting forward and backwards from a given number. Can we please ask that you count with your children at home wherever possible, counting backwards and forwards in ones and tens.

During Science we have been identifying various sources of light. We have found both natural and electric sources of light and looked at the difference between a light source and reflective objects and in Art we have looked at Kandinsky and have begun to produce some sketches in a similar style. Have a look at the photos!

We have a few things that we would like the children to bring in from home. If you have any school reading books at all can you please send them in. Our library seems very scarce since we sent every child home with 2 reading books as we went into lockdown. Also, anyone who has their child's red Get Spelling Book 2B at home we would be ever so grateful if you could send this back. Thank you to those parents who have already done this. Also, over the next few weeks your child will need a torch in school for Science. Usually we would share torches amongst the children but this is something we currently can't do. Could you please send your child into school with a labelled torch next week. The children will keep them in their own individual tray and they will not be shared. We will keep them in school for a few weeks until no longer needed then return them home. Finally, if anyone has any water colour pallettes/tins at home that are lying around gathering dust then we would love to give them a home at school!

A big congratulations to this weeks Superstars - Jasper and Katrin!

Enjoy the Autumn sunshine this week and thank you as always for your continued support.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
