Year 3 Blog - 14.10.22

14.10.22

This week we have got lost in an enchanted world. We are studying the classic author, Enid Blyton and her very popular ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’. The children have been mesmerised by the quirky characters; Moonface, Saucepan Man and Silky the Fairy.  Here is a link to a little girl retelling ‘Silky’s story’ if you would like to listen along at home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htqz1Gj4NvQ

During Guided Reading we have been skimming and scanning the text to pull out all the key vocabulary to enable us to retell the story from memory. This is a vital skill and will be really important when we begin to recount the story in the written form next week. We have been building our V.I.P’s (Visual Instructional Plans, a little like a storyboard) to structure 8 paragraphs to recount the story of Silky. Ask your child if they can tell you the story in their own words. We bet it will be filled with lots of super adjectives, adverbs and colourful vocabulary. Rehearsing a story verbally really supports the children’s ability to recall the sequence and key events in a story. We are all authors!

We are all looking forward to our immersive DT week. Kebabs, crumbles and tasty tarts are all on the menu. If your child has any allergies please speak to a member of staff ASAP.

Oh, to have been a fly on the wall during our music lesson. 30 glockenspiel’s all chiming ‘together’ in our own special rendition of ‘Oh when the saints go marching in’. If you were in the vicinity or possibly even several miles away you may well have heard us. Take a look at the photos. We had a great time!

One more week to go then half term in upon us.

Enjoy the weekend!

The Year Three Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
