Year 3 Blog - 25.11.22

25.11.22

We are just loving life in Year Three at the moment!

We have laughed at Pantosaurus, cheered when England won their first game, pricked our fingers and lost the end of the thread on countless occasions as we have begun our sewing projects, and thought carefully about God. Is he like the stars, a rock, a rescuer, a warm hug... and to top everything off we have enjoyed a good old boogie to Daft Punk. Please enjoy sharing some of our photos with your child.

On Tuesday, our choir members serenaded us with a rehearsal of their Formby Lights Switch On set, getting us all in the Christmas mood.

The children all had a good giggle as we discussed all the different names we have for our private parts. Once we had calmed down we discussed very sensibly the medically correct terms; penis and vagina. The children listened carefully as we spoke about how it is important to know the correct names as at the end of the day it is just another body part, no different from your arm, elbow or ankle.

Our lesson covered the NSPCC's PANTS rule. Please click on this link if you would like to see the resources we used in class.

We are only half way through our lessons but the children are really enjoying them. Especially as they all got to design a pair of pants to hang on our washing line in class. We have spoken about what private means, who in certain circumstances is allowed to ask to look under our pants, with the child's consent and who would we go to if we were concerned that something just didn't feel right. Ask your child who their trusted adult would be. This also opened up a conversation about keeping secrets. The children are beginning to understand that an adult shouldn't really ever ask a child to keep a secret. Maybe a daft one like, "Don't tell Daddy I've hidden the chocolate under the sofa!" but certainly not any secret that contains a threat. This is a challenging but essential set of skills that the children are learning. Children's voices are so important and we are all exploring together the differences between right and wrong, appropriate and inappropriate. This theme ties in brilliantly with last week's Anti Bully focus.

In maths, we have moved onto multiplying in 3's and 4's. If your child is unfamiliar with these times tables please spend some time on TTRS's. You can choose which tables you wish to focus on. There are also many funky times tables songs on YouTube. They are annoyingly catchy but that's the point. If it sticks in your head it's working! We have been singing the three times table to the tune of Jingle Bells!

Finally, in science, we have brought our Rocks and Soils topic to a close by chanelling our inner 'petrologist' by carrying out various investigations on a range of rocks.  We carried out three tests including a hardness test, permeability test and an acid test. It's so unbelievable what a rock can tell you about the past!

Wishing you all a restful weekend!

The Year Three Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
