Year 3 Blog - 20.1.23

Date: 20th Jan 2023 @ 3:10pm

20.01.23

Our week started off on a positive note as we chatted about how wonderful we all are. We are unique, special, talented and overflowing with gifts.  The children thought carefully about what makes them, well them. Are they a super sister, a kind friend, a dog walker, a computer expert? You may be able to see where we are going with this… Next week the children will be asked to write a kenning poem celebrating “Wonderful me!”

Our ICT lesson focussed on a checklist of what we should do if something online makes us feel uncomfortable, worried or scared. The children actually came up with a number of scenarios from their personal experience which fuelled a number of insightful discussions. The basic rules surround the following points:

Tell an adult you trust immediately.

DO NOT click to close the content.

DO NOT shut down the device.

DO NOT respond.

DO NOT block or report until you have told a trusted adult.

In art, we have begun our new focus on animated / moving drawings. The ultimate aim is for the children to create a moving drawing / puppet based loosely around the illustrations of Quentin Blake. Maybe you could encourage your child to research a favourite animal illustration. Could they interpret the shapes, colours and lines in their own unique way? Take a look at some of our Enormous Crocodile visual notes. Brilliant aren’t they!

In English we have been looking at direct speech and the use of inverted commas. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoE9ET6CtaI – inverted commas song) The children have found it useful to read aloud as it then becomes more obvious where the expression is needed and therefore where the punctuation needs to go. Take a look at some of the photos, we have some budding actors and actresses with facial expressions to match. If you have a copy of The Twits at home maybe read a chapter together before bed or listen to the audio book;

The children have also loved this clip of the Wormy Spaghetti. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWvyB-QvbVA

Please, please, please encourage your child to access the TT Rockstars programme daily at home. It only needs to be for 10 minutes but it makes such an enormous difference. We are tackling division at the moment which obviously involves the inverse of multiplication. “How many times does 3 fit into 27?” “If I share 48 sweets equally between 8 children, how many will each child get?” The children need to be able to recall these facts rapidly without the need to work through each calculation. Choose the Jamming mode and select the times tables that your child is comfortable with to begin with then add in the 3, 4, 8 x tables.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

The Year Three Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
