Year 3 Blog 19.01.24

Date: 18th Jan 2024 @ 6:14pm

We have enjoyed a fun packed week in Year 3.

Our English focus continues to be our narrative focus, The Incredible Book Eating Boy, by Oliver Jeffers. The children have been using similes, conjunctions and fronted adverbials in their writing. We also enjoyed an English Experience Day, we enjoyed reading the book ‘Ketchup on your cornflakes?’ by Nick Sharratt. In groups, the children created their own silly sentences booklets to share to the rest of the class. The children had a lot of fun making their silly sentences!

In Maths, Y3 have been learning about mass/weight. The children aware of the phrase ‘kilogrammes’ and ‘grams.’ We know that 1000g is equal to 1kg. Maths home learning this week continues to focus on converting units of measurement.

In art, we have begun our new focus on animated / moving drawings. The ultimate aim is for the children to create a moving drawing / puppet based loosely around the illustrations of Quentin Blake. Maybe you could encourage your child to research a favourite animal illustration. Could they interpret the shapes, colours and lines in their own unique way? Take a look at some of our Enormous Crocodile visual notes. Brilliant aren’t they!

In Science we have looked at the functions of the skeleton and how important it is! We wonder if your child can remember any, if not all, of the 5 different functions?

Please, please, please encourage your child to access the TT Rockstars programme daily at home. It only needs to be for 10 minutes but it makes such an enormous difference.

Doodle – as previously stated on the spider message, as a school, we will be using the app ‘Doodle’ to support learning in English and Maths.  Y3 children will have their login details glued into the back of their home learning books from next week. Once the children have completed their baseline assessment in school, they can login to Doodle at home to extend their literacy and numeracy skills.

The Year Three Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
