Year 3 Blog - 13.5.22

Date: 13th May 2022 @ 1:59pm

13.05.22

Well, a full week on and the children are still talking about our trip to Ness Gardens. Even Mrs Carton keeps interjecting with another fascinating fact about why bamboo sheds its husk and that beetles are brilliant pollinators. Everyday is a ‘school day’ and the children are excited to share their new learning with their friends. We really value the power of educational trips and are already looking forward to our next adventure in Chester.  You should have received the letter and permission slip for our next trip via Spider. If you haven’t please contact us on our Year Three email address, yr3@slf.sefton.school

Following on from our trip we have been learning all about the process of PHOTOSYNTHESIS. The children have been amazed to learn just how clever plants are by turning sunlight, water and carbon dioxide into a source of food. Amazing!

Our wire and paper flower sculptures are now complete. Mrs Cowey even awarded each class with a Golden Ticket. She was so impressed with the astonishing variety of designs, colours and techniques used. From the huge sunflower to the delicate bluebell each child followed their own creative path and we were delighted with their final pieces. Please take a look at a some of our creations below.

In English we have also been letting our creative side shine as we have penned our own sunflower poems. The children really embraced the feeling of ownership and understood that their poem can be as unique as they are. There are no real rules in poetry but there were adjectives, adverbs, alliteration and similes popping out of every page.

Some children have expressed an interest in a number of Cross Country events taking place over he next few weeks. If your child comes home with a letter and after further discussion with yourselves they would like to participate please return the permission slips to school ASAP.

Please remember that our PE days are now Thursday (cricket) AND Friday (dodgeball). PE changes are always noted on our class page of the website.

We hope the sunshine fills your weekend with cheer!

The Year Three Team x

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
