Year 3 Blog 12.01.24

Date: 12th Jan 2024 @ 2:09pm

A wonderful first full week back in school! The children have settled back into school routines so well this week. We are delighted that they are ready to make a solid start to the new calendar year!

Eureka! Wha a fantastic trip we had on Thursday!! The Y3 children had a brilliant time at the science and discovery musuem... please take a look at the photos (there are a lot!). The trip was perfect for our new science topic, healthy humans. The children enjoyed a speical science show by the leaders at Eureka, including practical demonstrations about the way our bodies work.

In English we have made a good start to our very exciting narrative story, ‘The Incredible Book Eating Boy’ by Oliver Jeffers. We all await in anticipation to see where the story takes us… The children have been learning how to use a colon and where to correctly place them. We have also been using similes in our writing based on our new narrative story.

We have been super scientists this week! The children have been learning that animals, including humans, need the right types and amount of nutrition and that they cannot make their own food: they get nutrition from what they eat. We have also been identifying that humans and some other animals have skeletons and muscles for support, protection and movement. The Y3 children enjoyed the activity of drawing around their peers on sugar paper and labelling all the body parts that they are aware of including: organs, bones, limbs. Please take a look at the photos, the children took a lot out of this lesson!

Maths homework this week is based on our current topic of Length - writing length in centimetres and metres. Y3 are aware that 100 cm is equal to 1m. Therefore, 1m 30 cm is equal to 130cm. The maths homework sheets have been printed out, for this week, and placed in the children's bookbags or home learning books (not glued in). If you have access to a computer at home, please visit this website, Top Marks, to practise measuring in centimetres. The children had a go in class this week and it has proven to be a great resource. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/measuring-in-cm

Wishing you a restful weekend!

The Year Three Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
