Year 3 Blog 08.12.23

Another busy and productive week in Y3!

In maths, we have moved onto multiplying 2-digit numbers with renaming. The children have learned how to use the longer multiplication method to solve these problems. We also have been using base 10 materials when renaming 10 ones for 1 ten. We have been delighted with the maths this week!

In English, we have continued to learn about Skara Brae, Orkney Island just off Scotland. The children are working towards writing a holiday brochure/leaflet to persuade readers to visit the holiday destination. Again, we have been really impressed with the quality of writing across the year group! The children have been using imperative verbs, alliterations and personification to extend their writing.

In Science this week, Y3 loved the experiment! We had a busy afternoon discovering whether or not various rocks are permeable or impermeable by adding water, a small amount of acid (vinegar!!). The children learned a lot from this lesson… please take a look at the photos!

Next week is a busy week, we are all excited for the Y2 Christmas Nativity! Can you believe this time last year your child was taking part in their Nativity! Also, on Thursday afternoon, Y3 will be singing to the rest of the school with our specialist music teacher from Liverpool Cathedral. Our children have been practising some lovely Christmas songs, including: silent night and Gaudete!

We had a rehearsal in the hall this week... ready for the big day next Thursday afternoon.

Finally, we will be watching a special Christmas Nativity show from SASWT on Monday morning. I am sure we will all very much enjoy the show!

2 more action-packed weeks to go… the Christmas countdown has definitely begun!

Have a great weekend! See you all on Monday ready for the new week.

The Year Three Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
