Year 3 Blog 08.03.24

Date: 8th Mar 2024 @ 9:34am

We’ve had such a lot of fun this week, with World Book Day being a real highlight of the year. It was so nice to see all the children in their outfits, very well done! The children enjoyed having the time to ‘get lost in a good book.’ The children also loved the ‘masked reader’… where the teachers read a passage of text, with an animal mask on, the children had to guess who the member of staff was! All was revealed in a special World Book Day assembly. Please take a look at the range of photographs from WBD! We had such a good day!

In Maths this week, we have continued our learning on fractions, turning our focus to comparing and ordering. Year 3 are confident when ordering fractions from smallest to largest, or largest to smallest. We are aware that ‘the greater the denominator, the smaller the fraction.’ We have been really impressed with the children’s knowledge and dedication towards the subject!

In English, we are coming to end on our sequenced learning on Earthquakes, based on the non-fiction book, ‘Earth Shattering Events’ by Robbin Jacobs. Year 3 have built up a range of knowledge on natural disasters, including earthquakes and tsunami’s, that will support them with their independent writing over the next week. The children will choose their own chosen natural disaster which then they will write a non-chronological report.

In RE we have been looking at the Last Supper, Jesus and his disciples, who betrayed Jesus and why did he betray Jesus. The children have created an incredible diary recalling the events of the Last Supper.

Remember to complete Home Learning grid activities each week, as well as the maths homework set on Doodle every Friday. Home Learning books are to be returned on Wednesday’s.

As ever, please encourage your child to access the Doodle Times Tables, or the TT Rockstars programme daily at home; it only needs to be for 10 minutes but it makes such an enormous difference.  Choose the Jamming mode and select the times tables that your child is comfortable with to begin with then add in the 3, 4, 8 x tables.  These catchy songs will also help embed learning:

The Year Three Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
