Year 2 Weekly Blog (9. 7. 21)

Date: 8th Jul 2021 @ 9:21am

We are all really happy to see the majority of the children back in the classroom after a period at home.  Mrs Groom and Miss McGarvey were both very impressed with how hard the children worked in the Google Classroom.

This week, we were supposed to be going on our trip to explore the different habitats close to where we live, but unfortunately the heavy rain meant that we had to cancel Tuesday’s trip; instead, the children did lots of different science activities throughout the day, and in the afternoon when the sun began to shine, we went into the garden to examine ‘microhabitats’.

The children have also spent more time in the garden this week, harvesting the fruits of their labour.  Last Friday, the children picked lots of strawberries and sugar snap peas from the garden and got to have a little taste test later that morning.  This week, on Thursday, the children went through the potato bags which were planted several months ago and discovered lots of potatoes of all shapes and sizes, and on Friday, Carol - the school cook - very generously offered to cook the potatoes for us!  So as well as their usual playtime snack, the children also had the opportunity to try one of our home-grown potatoes, still piping hot from the kitchen!  The children were very excited to have a taste of our bumper crop and the verdict was overwhelmingly positive!

In Maths, the children have continued to think about volume and capacity and have also been introduced to ‘the bar model’, which is something they will continue to investigate and use throughout their time at school.

Next week will be our last full week before the end of the school year - we’re looking forward to our Year 2 sports day and watching the Year 6 leavers’ show!

Enjoy your weekend and good luck to England on Sunday!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
