Year 2 Weekly Blog (6.1.22)

Happy New Year! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break. It's been lovely to hear what all the children have been up to over the Christmas period.

We began our week by sharing and writing about our Christmas news which the children were keen to share with us and their friends.

We then introduced this terms topic 'Once upon a time'. The children have had the chance to read a variety of different fairy tales and have begun to look at settings of a fairy tale, the characters, magic, talking animals and happy endings. We have also been drawing some of our favourite story characters for our topic covers.

In Maths we are continuing to look at length and the children have been getting practical using their rulers to measure different objects and comparing lines. We also worked on solving word problems related to length and using bar models to help the children solve problems.

Thursday afternoon was filled with excitement as the children all recieved their well earned golden ticket parties!

In Music, the children have been introduced to instruments in the orchestra and were identifiying the instruments within a piece of orchestral music based on the familiar story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Take care,

The Year 2 team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
