A very Happy New Year to you all, we hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break.

It's been a short but sweet couple of days back, we have had a lovely time, hearing about the children's break. We kicked off yesterday by introducing the children to our new English story 'Little Red Reading Hood', a beautiful twist on the modern traditional tale. We spoke about how much Little Red Reading Hood loves reading and will read anywhere she can. This led to the children thinking about where they enjoy reading the most. We then used the classroom to make dens for us to tuck up with our friends and enjoy some of our favourite stories, just like Little Red Reading Hood. The children today started writing about Little Red Reading Hood, thinking about the vocabualry we could use to describe the love she has for reading.

We also started our new topic 'Once Upon a Time' allowing the children to browse through our selection of traditional tales and create a book cover for their topic work. We have posted the overview to this term on the website, so you can have a look at what we will be up to within the topic this term.

In PE we started gymnastics, this term we are focusing on spinning, twisting and turning. The children tried to think of ways they could balance on body parts that weren't their hands or feet and then created a sequence that included balances and spins.

During Maths we have started looking at mass and the children have loved getting practical with the scales. We have experimented with different objects learning how to use scales and balancing scales. We have also been comparing grams and kilograms and been predicting how heavy we think an item might be i.e. is a pencil more, less than or about the same as 1kg/10g.

We haven't sent any homework home this week, with only being in two days, so homework books will be coming home next friday.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
