Year 2 Weekly Blog (4. 2. 22)

Date: 3rd Feb 2022 @ 9:00am

This week, we have been tasting gingerbread biscuits!  The children have tested a variety of different types of ginger biscuits and evaluated their taste, texture and appearance.

In Maths, the children have been further developing their fractions skills; the children have practised using manipulatives to consolidate their understanding of how to share things into equal groups: learning about the numerator and denominator and how we can use this information to work out questions like '1/2 of 8'.

On Tuesday, the class had a DT afternoon: the children had to design and make a model boat for the Gingerbread Man to use in the story to 'cross the river'.  The children used recycled scrap materials like bubble wrap, cardboard boxes and tape; the children all created some very interesting and unique designs.  After finishing their model, the children then tested their boats to see if they floated.

On Friday, we were thrilled to see the different animal costumes the children had dressed up in for our special 'Animal Mufti' day.  We had owls, cats, tigers and even some unicorns, dinosaurs and dragons!

Next week, the children will have a very exciting final week before the half-term break: they will be baking their very own gingerbread biscuits and decorating them too!  Fingers crossed we have lots of 'star bakers'!  We are also looking forward to watching the Reception performance on the final day of the half-term.

We hope you all have a restful weekend, and look forward to seeing you all bright and early first thing on Monday morning!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
