Year 2 weekly blog (3.11.23)

Date: 3rd Nov 2023 @ 6:32am

Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderfully spooky half term.
We have kicked off this term introducing the children to our new topic "It's a material world". This term we be getting our lab coats on and becoming scientists investigating the many different materials we need in the world. We began this week by identifying different materials and spotting certain ones around the classroom and out and about round the school grounds. We then moved on to look at what particular objects are made on and why that material is suitable and also what materials wouldnt be suitable, I.e. cardboard would not be suitable to make a window as it's not waterproof, strong or transparent. The children have really enjoyed these mini investigations and we look forward to exploring materials more over the term.

During English we have been writing a set of instructions for lighting a sparkler safely. We have an experience day earlier this week where we all went outside and lit a sparkler and the children then used their own experience to come up with a set of rules to ensure our safety. Try asking them questions on bonfire night, like what do we need to remember to take for lighting our sparkler.

We stared our new PE units this week which are yoga and fundamental movement skills. The children loved getting zen during yoga and stretching out our bodies, we were very impressed seeing that some of the children already knew the butterfly pose!

We finished our week with some buddy time which is always warmly welcomed by all the children!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and get a chance to see some fireworks!

Take care,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
