Year 2 Weekly Blog (28. 1. 22)

Date: 26th Jan 2022 @ 12:09pm

The children have had another fabulous week in school: continuing to learn about traditional tales, furthering their knowledge and understanding of fractions, and using their sketch books to practise their art skills.

On Monday, the children enjoyed another music lesson: learning and exploring three different musical terms (dynamics, tempo and timbre) to support their re-telling of the story of Little Red Riding Hood.  The children selected different instruments to be played for each of the characters, and decided on different ways of playing their instruments for different parts of the story; the children chose a glockenspiel for Little Red Riding Hood - playing it very lightly and gently as she skipped through the forest; claves for the woodcutter; drums for the wolf, and shakers for the Grandmother.  Both classes had a great time playing all the different instruments using different techniques, and learning how music can be used to represent mood and feelings.

On Tuesday afternoon, the children created their very own 'WANTED' poster for the Troll from the 'Three Goats Gruff'.  We were amazed with the descriptive writing that they came up with to describe the Troll.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend, and look forward to seeing you on Monday for another fun-filled week in Year 2.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
