Year 2 Weekly Blog 23.2.24

Date: 21st Feb 2024 @ 8:50pm

Welcome back! We have kicked off our Superheroes topic with a WHAM! BANG! POP! The children are loving this topic already, as are we! We started the term with a much loved den making session. We have really enjoyed watching the children have quiet, cosy time to enjoy their books with their friends, it's been a great way to start the term.

In Maths this week we have started looking at money. We have been recognising coins and notes, and counting notes and coins seperately and then also together. The children have been working really well on this, which we thought might be difficult given how much of the world is now contactless.

This week during English we introduced the children to 'Supertato' which we have based this unit on. We read a few of the stories then began modelling our own version of the story with grammar focuses repetition, questions and similes.

In Art we have started our drawing journey with the children sketching a plant pot with twigs in using a continuous line, where they can't take their pen off the page. We had some wonderful drawings!

During RE have begun looking at the story of Easter, recapping the most important Christian celebration. In History, we looked at the lives of significant people, real life superhero Tim Peake.

We got creative in PE, creating a dance routine with an under the sea theme!

Thank you to those of you who attended this week's parents evening, we look forward to seeing everyone else next week.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
