Year 2 Weekly Blog (22. 5. 21)

Date: 19th May 2021 @ 11:00am

We have had another lovely week in school - especially enjoying the sunshine at the start of the week.  We are all looking forward to next week which will be the last before the half-term break.

On Monday the children enjoyed continuing to develop their understanding of the wider world in geography.  The classes looked closely at Google Earth and thought very scientifically about how and why different areas of the world appear different; why is the land around the equator lighter and more yellow?  Why is the land around the northern and most southern points white?  The children thought about why different parts of the oceans were darker towards the centre of a body of water, and lighter near the coastline.  They also learned about what a continent is and came up with some really good definitions.  We were amazed at how quickly they were all able to quickly recount all the oceans and continents of our world which they then labeled on a world map.

On Wednesday, we had our first Singing Worship in over a year!  Mrs Govan led the assembly virtually from her office, with classes ‘attending’ using Google Classrooms.  The children enjoyed being able to listen to hymns again and join in with ‘quiet singing’ and learning the actions.  There were a few technical hitches(!) but hopefully next week’s assembly will run more smoothly.

In P.E., the children have continued their dance lessons in the hall, practising their ‘country dancing’.  They had lots of fun skipping around and creating their own dance routine in small groups.

On Friday, the children dressed up in Animal Theme MUFTI to raise money for FOSLS.  It was very amusing seeing what all of the children - and the adults! - came to school dressed up as.

Next week, 2G have a Golden Ticket Reward afternoon on Tuesday and they will be enjoying outdoor games and a film in the classroom; the children are allowed to wear their own clothes, too.

Take care and see you next week, Year 2!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
