Year 2 Weekly Blog (21.4.23)

Date: 21st Apr 2023 @ 7:03pm

Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely Easter, the children wrote all about it on Monday and it sounds like everyone had a brilliant time!

We've introduced our new topic this term which is The Great Fire of London and The Plague. The children have been learning lots of interesting facts and creating topic covers. In Science, we have been looking at how the houses were built in 1666 and deciding if the materials used were suitable. During indoor PE we have also started creating a Great Fire of London dance!

We've been getting busy this week practising our comprehension skills in English. It's great to see even after a long break the children are raring to go!

In PE this week we have been continuing our golf skills with Sophie from Formby Hall, the children have loved having her teach them and we definitely have some keen little golfers among us!

In RE we are continuing to discover sacred books and have been focusing on The Bible, the New and Old Testament and in which section you would find a specific story. We looked at Daniel and the Lion's Den this week.

For Earth Day today we looked at ways we could help look after our home, the planet and came up with suggestions. We had some very creative ideas such as keeping our old crisp packets and lollipop sticks to put in our arts and craft boxes!

We hope you have a super weekend and will see you back next week for another fantastic week!

The Year 2 team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
