Year 2 Weekly Blog (20.1.23)

Date: 18th Jan 2023 @ 9:29pm

Hi everyone, we've had a great week in Year 2, we hope you have too!

This week we have been continuing this terms topic of 'Once upon a time' and the children have enjoyed looking at the tale of Hansel and Gretel. We have all created a story map of the tale of Hansel and Gretel and some children have written the story in their own words using their story map. We have been so impressed by the childrens choice of vocabulary, there are some brilliant adjectives being used!

In Maths we have moved on to measuring temperature this week and the children have really enjoyed going around school checking the temperature of places like the storytelling garden, the hall, other years classrooms and the staffroom. We are now beginning the look at Pictograms/picture graphs which the children have been exploring with their partners.

In Art we have been mark making on primary backgrounds and exploring mixing primary colours to create secondary colours as part of our expressive painting topic - definitely a firm favourite with the children as you can imagine!

In Computing we have again been visiting online safety and discussing with the children how they can keep their things safe online.

In RE we started our new topic of sacred books and began by discussing different types of special books and holy books. The children were very excited to share their special books from home which was lovely to see all the different variaties! We also looked together at our classes floor books that they start in Reception and the children were able to look back on some of their adventures they had in their first two years in the school.

In PHSE we have been discussing with the children how to be safe around medicines.

We have finished this week with music, again listening to the orchestra and introducing the children to tempo, dynamics and timbre within the piece. The children have had a chance to play instruments going from fast to slow (tempo),  loud to quiet (dynmaics) and alternating between two instruments (timbre). The children were then identifying characters within a piece of music from the orchestra and discussed what timbre of sound would be appropiate for each character. We have a lot of noisy fun!!

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 2 Team.

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
