Year 2 weekly blog 19.5.23

Date: 19th May 2023 @ 6:37am

We've had a history heavy week, diving deeper into The Great Fire of London which the children have really enjoyed. We created time lines of all the events leading up to the fire and after. We also investigated where the information about the fire comes from and whether they're reliable sources. We have also been rehearsing our Great Fire of London rap!!

In RE we have been listening to the story of Jonah and realising the meaning behind the story is forgiveness. The children thought about what they might need to ask forgiveness for 'not getting dressed when they were asked to', 'arguing with siblings' etc. As part of the Jewish tradition Tashlich, Jewish people symbollically show they are sending all of their wrong deeds away by placing bread crumbs in the water to drift off. We made our own symbols in the form of origami boats, and wrote on them what we would like to be forgiven for, ready to drift off.

We are continuing our sketching journey in Art and this week we were drawing portraits of our friends, with a challenge of not being able to look at the paper, only the face of who they were drawing. We had some brilliant portraits, very picasso like!

In outdoor games we have been practicing the skills required to play cricket, rolling balls, batting etc leading up to playing a game.

We have been doing a lot of maths revision, looking back to all the key topics we covered this year.

Have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing the children for the last week of term!!

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
