Year 2 Weekly Blog (18. 6. 21)

Date: 15th Jun 2021 @ 10:23am

This week we have been joined by some special visitors!  The ‘living eggs’ arrived on Monday morning and the children were very excited watching the incubator being setup in the 2G classroom.  As I’m sure you’re all sure, we also setup one of our class Chromebook’s so that 2M could also watch what was happening in the incubator!  It was nice to see the children were also eager to login to the Year 2 Google Classroom to check on their progress in the mornings and afternoons.

Throughout the week, the children have continued to learn about time in their maths lessons.  They have thought about ‘quarter-to’ and ‘quarter-past’ the hour, and have also started to learn how to tell the time in five minute intervals.

On Monday afternoon, the children started their ‘Chick Diaries’ which they will be using to keep an up-to-date record of how the chicks develop over the coming weeks, documenting everything that happens with our special visitors!  Both classes also enjoyed learning about pulse and rhythm in music - ‘the heartbeat of music’; they learned how to clap in time and sing songs with a steady and even beat.

On Tuesday, the children enjoyed the sunshine during outdoor P.E.  The children have been practising their athletics skills with a particular focus on running and relay races!  On Wednesday, the children continued the gymnastics scheme of work in the hall.

On Wednesday at around 10.50, just after play-time, we all had the exciting privilege of watching the first chick break free from its shell!  All of the children were spellbound as they watched this new life emerge into the wider world for the first time.  Throughout the rest of the day, the children were transfixed with the new life in our classroom, and it was nice to see so many children signing into their Google accounts to be able to access the Year 2 Classroom where the ‘chick stream’ was live throughout the day and night!

On Thursday, some of the older chicks were moved into the brooding box and into 2M.  All ten hatched over night, and on Thursday morning there were lots of excited children in Year 2, eager to welcome the chicks!  At the end of the week, all of the children had the opportunity to hold the chicks for the first time; we were very impressed with how careful and gentle the children were when they were handling them!  Well done, Year 2!

We hope you all have an enjoyable weekend; see you on Monday!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
