Year 2 weekly blog (17.11.23)

Date: 16th Nov 2023 @ 4:29pm

This week we have been getting stuck into our Nativity rehearsing which has been extremely exciting! Your child should have come home with a slip in their home learning book today with costume guidance. If anyone also has any child camping chairs, torches or lanterns that they would be willing to lend for our Nativity, please could you let us know - thank you very much.

In English we have been looking at postcards and the journey a letter takes once it enters the post box. We spoke about why and when we would send a postcard and how they aren't used as much anymore due to platforms like social media and texting. We discussed what a perfect christmas would be to us and how we could write a postcard to a friend about this. We spoke about using conjuctions such as 'because' to expand our sentences i.e. I would love it to snow at christmas because I've always wanted to make a snowman on Christmas day.

During our topic we researched the inventors of waterproof coats, tarmac and bike tyres; John MacAdam, John Dunlop and Charles Macintosh. Can you guess which created which by their names?? The children also experiemented with different materials, testing in they were waterproof or not.

It's been anti-bullying week and we have spoke a lot in class about what it means to be a good friend and how we can look after our friends. We spoke about how kindness can be a superpower and really change someones day!

In RE we have been thinking about the story of the first christmas and why Mary and Joseph travelled to Bethlehem. We are also beginning to make our Christmas booklets retelling the story of the Nativity.

Maths this week we have finished multiplication and have moved onto division. Please see the home learning blog for more information on what we have been up to in Maths this week.

We have also began a christmas challenege this week! Mr Williams have challeneged us all to complete 7 laps of our running track every day! We collect a snow ball for the leaderboard every day we do it, so far we have all our snow balls! The children can choose to walk or run or both and we have really been enjoyed the extra 10 minutes outside in the fresh air!

A great day today also raising money for children in need! We got some great pictures of the children in their mufti outfits!

We hope you all have a lovely weekiend,

The Year 2 team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
