Year 2 Weekly Blog 16.4.21

Date: 16th Apr 2021 @ 3:02pm

Everyone in Year 2 has had a lovely week back after the Easter break.  All of the children have returned to us eager to learn and well refreshed after the holiday period.

This week, the children have started to explore their new topic: The Great Fire of London.  We have been very impressed to listen to them sharing with us and the rest of their class what they already know about the subject, and we are looking forward to learning more about the historical event over the coming weeks.  The children have learned all about the differences between what London was like back in 1666 and what London looks like now, and in particular what houses looked like back then in 1666.

In P.E., both classes have started to practise their netball skills in outdoor games, and country dancing in the hall!  It is the first time we have been able to use the indoor space for over a year, and the children were all very excited to get back in the space for their dance lesson.

In Maths, the children have amazed Miss McGarvey and Mrs Groom with their knowledge and understanding of fractions; we have all been so impressed that they have been able to confidently retain and recall all of the work we completed before the Easter break, and now use it to further explore this area of maths.  On Friday, the children used counters to explore how to share particular amounts into two separate groups - and through this exercise, it was clear to see how all of the children have a really good grasp of their multiplication facts which enabled them to engage with these activities and complete them to a very high standard.

We are very pleased to note that lots of children have shown enormous progress in their reading.  Lots of children have been moving up book bands this week (with more to follow, we're sure!).  It has been lovely to listen to the children reading one-to-one and hearing how confident, fluent and expressive they have become when they are given the opportunity to read out loud.

We hope you all enjoy the sunshine this weekend and hope to see you ready, refreshed and raring to go on Monday morning!

P.S. 2G have their Golden Ticket Reward afternoon on Tuesday next week!  Remember: 2G children can come to school on that day in MUFTI!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
