Year 2 Weekly Blog (14. 1. 22)

Date: 11th Jan 2022 @ 10:26am

In Maths this week, the children have moved on from investigating how they can measure different lengths and heights to exploring how they can measure the mass of different objects using scales and balances; the children have learned about different units of measuring mass like grams and kilograms and how to read scales.  Towards the end of the week, the children have learned how to read temperature using a thermometer.

The children have also continued to think more on their topic for this half term: 'Once Upon A Time' - listening to a variety of different traditional stories, thinking about 'good' and 'bad' characters in these tales, and using different adjectives to describe what these characters are like.  We have been very impressed with their knowledge of these different stories, and everyone in Year 2 is looking forward to learning more about the topic in the coming weeks.

In Music, the children listened very carefully to the song 'Do you want to build a snowman' from the film Frozen, thinking how the music changes throughout the song to reflect what is happening in the film; the children identified different types of instruments that they could hear, and also were able to describe how these instruments were being played and link it to the story that was being told in pictures.  The children really enjoyed listening to the song and we were very impressed with how they were able to identify all the different types of instruments that were being played (woodwind, strings, brass, percussion).

On Thursday afternoon, the children continued to practise their dancing skills during their indoor P.E. lesson, and also learned all about the Jewish faith: thinking about different objects that are special to Jews.

We hope you all have a nice weekend and look forward to seeing you all again on Monday morning!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
