Year 2 Weekly Blog (12. 3. 21)

Date: 10th Mar 2021 @ 11:03am

We have had a super week back in school - everyone in Year 2 was very excited to see all of the children on Monday morning, and it was lovely to see all of the children seeing their friends for the first time in quite a while.  Thank you for making sure your child brought back all their resources and books back into school on Monday morning - it took a little bit of time to organise all of our books, but our classrooms are now just about back to how they were before!  We have also enjoyed being able to have a proper look at some of the fabulous work they completed during lockdown.

This week, the children have thought about the year group's Christian value, 'Courage'.  We think that our year group value is particularly significant for all children returning to school this week, as all them have shown great courage in coming back into school after another long break.  Both classes have had lots of opportunities to share the things that they did during lockdown with their families, and have also talked about their feelings.  The classes have talked about the Easter story also wrote prayers related to our year group value of courage, thinking carefully about Jesus' sacrifice.

Throughout the week, the children have completed lots of work on their topic on Superheroes.  Their focus has been writing riddles, and they have had great fun thinking about riddles, reading different ones, and even having a go at writing their own.  They have also spent lots of time exploring different types of books on superheroes: factfiles, cartoons and comic books, and lots more.  The children have also explored how to use their pencils in art to create dark and light shades, and used this technique to think about how to draw a figure and the shadow that is cast.  We were very impressed with their attention to detail and their ability to use the pencil in different ways to create light and shade.

Our school's P.E. coordinator Mr Williams has organised for each year group a playtime box of equipment for the children to use during their break.  They were thrilled to take it out on Thursday afternoon for the first time, and we were all very pleased and proud of how they took ownership of the equipment, making sure to tidy everything back into the correct box at the end of each break and, most importantly, how they all played together.

Everyone in Year 2 is thrilled to be back in school, and we are very much looking forward to the next two weeks before the Easter break.  Enjoy the weekend!

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
