Year 2 Weekly Blog (1.12.23)

Date: 30th Nov 2023 @ 4:38pm

Continuing our Christmas topic 'Christmas around the world' we have been looking at how Christmas is celebrated in both Japan and Spain. We especially enjoyed learning about Christmas in Spain and thought it sounded magical, going to church for Midnight Mass, then afterwards walking down the streets wishing each other a Merry Christmas. We also learnt that Spain have big celebrations on the 6th of January called Epiphany which celebrates the Three Kings visiting Jesus and taking him gifts. The night before Epiphancy, children in Spain leave their shoes out on their windowsills, this is for the Kings to leave some presents in their shoes. There are Epiphancy parades, where people dress up as the Three Kings and travel on camels down the streets. What wonderful traditions, do you and your family have any special traditions?

During English this week we have been finished our guided write of our postcard, focusing on rhetorical questions, using 'as' and 'because' to create a complex sentence and how to sign off a card/letter/postcard. We are all set to begin our independent post card writing next week!

The rest of the week has been heavily Nativity focused! If we haven't been discussing the story of the Nativity in class, we have been in the hall reshearsing. The children are so excited for their first dress rehearsal next week, we can't wait for you to see the show very soon!

Have a wonderful weekend,

The Year 2 Team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
