Year 2 weekly blog (10.11.23)

Date: 7th Nov 2023 @ 5:02pm

This week the children have got stuck into our new topic 'it's a material world'. We have continued looking at material suitability and the properties of material. The children have discussed what material would be suitable to make a rabbits hutch, a babies cup and a pillow case. We have also looked at items that can be made from different materials and when would be best to use them, I.e a spoon or ruler. We then investigated which materials can change shape, by bending, twisting, stretching and squashing various items around the classroom. We then experimented with a variety of paper to decide which would be the most suitable to wrap a present and which paper is absorbent. The children had great fun with this! We also discussed what materials can be recycled and why it is so important to recycle!

During English we have been writing a set of instructions to make toast. We have a wonderful morning on Monday making the toast and enjoyed eating it! We all said we wish we could start the school day off like this everyday! The children have been focusing on writing clear instructions with a title, a question, a hook, a checklist and steps that include using imperative verbs and time connectives.

In outdoor PE we continued with our invasion game skills which include throwing and catching tennis balls. The children have been catching a ball consistently on the full and moving their opponent around the court when playing against them.

We also introduced the children to some of the songs we will be learning for our Nnativity play! We have been so impressed by how much the children love singing these already. We also did a big reveal for our Nnativity parts which I'm sure the children have shared with you. We are keen to get stuck into the Nativity very soon and will be sending more information home over the new few weeks.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone,
The Year 2 team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
