Year 2 Weekly Blog (10. 01. 20)

Date: 10th Jan 2020 @ 12:09pm

The children have all come back into class after the Christmas break ready and excited to learn; we were all excited to welcome the children back into school, and we were all eager to hear all about their holiday news which was shared on Monday morning.  We hope that you all had a happy and restful holiday, and thanks again for the kind and thoughtful gifts that were given prior to the Christmas break.  Thank you!

We have introduced our new topic this week: 'Once upon a time...'; the children will learn all about different types of traditional stories (Hansel and Gretel, The Three Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood...) and even have a go at re-writing their own!  The children have already shared their favourites, thought about different types of characters, and heard and watched a variety of stories to get their creative juices flowing.  Towards the end of the week, the children thought about the different types of settings that are typically found in fairy tales and amazed us with their descriptive writing of these settings - building on what we have been talking and thinking about all week during our English lessons.  The children will be continuing to think about descriptive writing next week...

On Wednesday, the children from both classes enjoyed their Golden Ticket Reward afternoon after collecting 30 Golden Tickets - the children had lots of fun den building in 2M, and playing with Christmas toys in 2G!

In Maths, the children have continued to practise their arithmetic skills and also moved on to learning about fractions.

P.S. Each child should now have their new home learning grid in their book bag - either in their home learning book, or loose in their book bag.

Enjoy your weekend and see you next week!
