Year 2 Weekly Blog (07.10.22)

Date: 7th Oct 2022 @ 5:08pm

We've had a great week!  We can't believe the children have finished their fifth week in Year 2, it's going so quickly!

We have continued our topic 'where we live' and we have introduced Magic Grandad to the children. Magic Grandad travelled back in time to the victorian times and showed the children what the houses where like in that era. They were very surprised to see the toilet was outside!

In Maths this week we are continuing to look at column method but this week we are subtracting. You'll see this in the weekly homework. Please check the home learning tab for more information on this.

On Tuesday, the children walked with their buddies to the church for a special harvest service performed by Year 3. We all really enjoyed it!

In computing this term we have been looking at very exciting algorithmns! The children have loved playing with lego algorithmns, creating models and writing instructions for their partner to then follow and build. If you have some lego at home, give it a try!

In Science we have been looking at materials and how a house is built. We've loved hearing the children's stories of their own building experiences (extensions, walls etc).Luckily, we had a local bricklayer drop off some bricks, cement and building sand for the children to all have a look at too.

We also began designing our ferris wheels! We are very excited to begin making these as part of our Design Technology week next week. It's not too late to bring in some materials if you have any at home - thank you!

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

The Year 2 team

to learn, to succeed, to value one another

Our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. A value is a belief or principle that guides our thinking and behaviour. Our values underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils to be happy and confident and to to take an active role in their community and the wider world.

Each year group has adopted one of our Christian values: Kindness, Forgiveness, Courage, Thankfulness, Hope, Faithfulness and Respect. Our over-arching Christian Value is Love. Throughout the year children are helped to explore, have opportunities to practise and then given time to reflect on what each of our Christian values means to them.
